How we help you avoid unnecessary conflict in family disputes

Nobody wants to deal with conflict if they can avoid it while still getting the outcome they need. When it comes to family disputes, such as over your finances or children during divorce, our team will always prioritise finding a non-confrontational way forward wherever possible.

We tailor our approach to your circumstances and priorities and can offer several different strategies to help you achieve the right result for you and your loved ones while keeping conflict to a minimum.

Family mediation

Mediation is the most common option for resolving family disputes, especially those around divorce and separation. When getting divorced, you will need to show that you have at least considered mediation before being allowed to take your divorce through the courts.

The process takes place over a number of sessions where you and your ex-partner (or whoever else you are in a dispute with) will meet with a trained mediator to discuss the issues you disagree over and try to agree solutions.

This approach lets you keep control of the process, rather than putting it in the hands of a judge, and can allow you to achieve a solution much faster and at lower cost than is usually the case with court proceedings.

Collaborative law

Where there are more challenging issues to deal with, such as complex financial matters, collaborative law can be a more appropriate option than mediation. This process involves you, your ex-partner and your respective lawyers sitting down for a series of four-way ‘round the table’ meetings to discuss the issues you need to resolve.

Like mediation, this allows you to stay in control of how your dispute is resolved, but you have the advantage of your own specialist legal adviser on hand (who must be trained in collaborative law). You can also have other professional experts, such as accountants and financial advisers, attend, where their guidance would be helpful.

Family court proceedings

Where you cannot agree a solution voluntarily, we can initiate court proceedings where necessary. Our family lawyers are highly experienced with pursuing various types of legal matters through the courts, so can give you the best chance of a positive outcome while keeping the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible for you.

Our family law fees

Fixed fee family law services

We offer fixed fee deals for many of our family law services, where we agree the total cost of dealing with a specific matter at the outset. This gives you complete certainty over the costs involved.

Fixed fees can be agreed for a single part of the process, e.g. a fixed price for each session of mediation required, or for dealing with your whole case, depending on the circumstances.

Hourly rates for family law advice

We can also offer our services on the basis of a fixed hourly rate, meaning you pay for the exact amount of time we spend dealing with your legal matter.

This allows us to give you the exact amount of support you need, while all billable work will be agreed in advance, so you always stay in control of the overall cost.
