At Lovell Chohan Solicitors we cater for both private and legally aided sectors offering a wider scope with a range of bespoke and tailor made options to suit our clients. We strive to achieve fair and reasonable charges for our clients.
Private Client
Under this scheme we will provide you with an estimate of the cost of your case. We can break this down and give you an estimate for the costs of each stage including both our fees and any disbursements. Disbursements are the costs we incur with other parties, for example court fees, expert fees or the cost of counsel. You will provide us with funds for all or an agreed proportion of this sum before we undertake any work on your behalf. When we reach the agreed cost limit, if you have set one, we will send you a detailed bill. If necessary, we will ask for additional funds before taking any further action.
If your case is a litigation matter it may be possible for you to recover these costs from your opponent if you win the case, and or you may wish to purchase an after the event insurance policy. We can discuss these options further with you.
We also operate an agreed fee scheme, this is where we agree the total cost of your case to a certain point and/or completion.
The costs issues will be explained to you in our client care letter provided to you at the outset of the case.
Public Funding Scheme for Civil Cases
If you have a low income, you may be eligible for assistance from the Legal Services Commission, formerly known as The Legal Aid Board, to meet part or all of the cost of a case and now known as public funding. The Legal Services Commission is a government body.
In some instances you may be required to make a contribution towards your legal costs. If you recover or preserve property, you may have to pay back the LSC all the costs incurred. This is called the statutory charge.
We hold franchises with the Legal Services Commission for family and civil areas of work. We have regular audits to make sure that we meet their high standards in respect of our legal advice and financial controls. We hold the Legal Services specialist quality mark (SQM)
We hold a contract with the Legal Services Commission to provide legal advice to people who receive either benefits or who are on a low income. This is called the Legal Help Scheme, previously known as the Green Form scheme.
